Captain Brian Kitching
Downing Scholar (Class of 2015)
Captain Brian Kitching graduated in 2005 from Alabama A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, and was commissioned into the Infantry. He has worked in a variety of positions while assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (AASLT), the 82nd Airborne Division, the 75th Ranger Regiment, and the 3rd Infantry Division. His service includes five deployments to Afghanistan, and he currently commands B Company, 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 64th Armored Regiment at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Brian will attend the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government and Tufts University Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and pursue a Master’s in Public Administration and a Master of Arts in International Security Studies respectively. His awards and decorations include the Silver Star, the Bronze Star Medal (with 3 oak leaf cluster and “V” device for valor), Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Ranger Tab, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Combat Infantryman Badge. He is married to the former Shanna Harrison and they have one son, Brian, Jr.
